Suva the green city

Since we have been here for a while, in Suva, and we are always returning from the islands to this capital city of Fiji, we have to write something about how we spend time here. Because the city is known for its very frequent rain during the whole year, most of the time in the backpack we wear raincoats and umbrellas, because the weather is changing very rapidly here. This city is the largest city in the South Pacific and is architecturally rich with colonial buildings and modern shopping centers such as Tappo city and MHCC.

In the streets, you can see a cultural mix of people. People from nearby South Pacific Islands as well as many Indian populations, and in recent years there have also been a large number of Chinese immigrants. And of course tourists, mostly from Australia and New Zealand, especially during this time, because they have the main school holidays.

Usually in the morning we always go on foot to city. That is a good half an hour walk or we just jump to the bus. We visit a market where we always buy daily fresh vegetables and tropical fruits. Then we go on foot to the green area of the city. But if we wish for a little modern atmosphere, we jump into some shopping center or into our favorite coffee shop in a place where we relax a bit.

We admit it that going around the city is very relaxing for us. Especially now, when we sailed from Vanua Balavu. After three weeks we almost missed the goods on which we are still more than not accustomed. Although we sometimes wish to be Robinson Crusoe.
