Fiji time – going crazy!

When we were at home in Slovenia, we really wanted our pace of life to calm down. Too much rushing around, superficial communication, of course, there is a routine here that we can’t tolerate it and we are loosing our nerves every day more. Here in Fiji, the story is completely different. We knew that the rhythm of life would be completely changed. Fiji time or “going crazy”.

Otherwise, we can not express ourselves. Slowly, of course, we fell into an island rhythm, but we will not be able to get used to it completely, because it’s really all too slow here. When we were leaving Lautoka, our friend assured us that the driver will take us after breakfast to Suva, the capital of Fiji. After breakfast, we cleaned up the things nicely, packed our backpacks, and waited for transportation. And we were waiting for him in vain, because the driver was not coming. In Suva, the family was waiting for us.

They were cooking for us from morning on, but we were still waiting and waiting. Finally, the driver came and said that he can’t drive us and the thing was done. It was 14:00. Ana was already a little tired, because she did’t sleep in the afternoon. When she finally fell asleep, we decided to go on a bus. We did not want to let the family down, since they did very well for our arrival.

At 14:45 we were still waiting for a taxi to take us to the station. The departure of the bus was at 15:00. Nerves and angry of the world around us, like a wounded lions. But everybody around us as if nothing happened. They watched our angry faces and they did not get much burdened. In the end, we really succeeded! After four hours of driving we arrived to Suva and the family who impatiently awaited us.

We acknowledges that the journey is sometimes really hard, specially now, when we travel as three and everything is almost subordinate to our little girl, but such a big girl who is truly born a traveler. These difficult moments will soon dissolve in the moments when joy and laughter are among us.

Who knows, if such a slow rhythm suits us at all? That’s why we are here. Right?
