Crete

To visit the island of Crete, we decided not only for the beauty of the island, but also for the hotel AMMOS, located in the vicinity of Chanie, more specifically on the beach Agii Apostoli. This hotel is the most popular and ideal for families with children and is also the most visited by English guests, but it was also very well presented in the Conde Nast Traveler Magazine.

For three of us, this was an unforgettable week we spent at the hotel, around it, on beautiful beaches and in the hillside of Crete. We selected the most favorable airline connection via Venice (Treviso) to Chanie with the airline RYANAIR. To the hotel itself we took off with bus transportation, as they gave us the exact instructions how to get to the hotel.

We felt very comfortable at the hotel from the very start. Every morning a royal breakfast awaited us with an incredible selection of greek pie, yogurt, cakes, fruit, cereals, freshly squeezed orange juice and delicious coffee.

The hotel is equipped with various details and furniture, which is the passion and love of the owner of Nikos. Interestingly, most of the accessories and furniture in the dining room are the work of Slovenian designer Nika Zupanc.

Every morning after breakfast we were advised by staff to plan trips and to spend quality time on the island of Crete. With their suggestions, we always agreed as a very demanding traveler, so we always rushed quickly to the room for things, packed and rented a car to explore the western part of island.

One day we went to the most famous beach in Crete, Elafonissi beach, which was more like a lagoon of a tropical island.

Since we were in Crete in the beginning of April, the beach was almost empty, and the water in the shallow lagoon for more courageous ones already suitable for swimming and chasing. In the afternoon, when we were returning a little tired, a free kindergarten was organized in the hotel during the week, where the children played a little, and the parents could talk about the adventures and beauties of Crete.

We watched mountain villages every day, eating good island food, known only in Crete, visited one of the oldest olive trees in the world in the village of Vouves.

We crossed the western part of Crete from the peninsula of Akrotiri, where the beautiful monastery Agia Triada is located to the little sleepy fishing village of Chora Sfakion.

We also visited the famous island artist Manousos Chalkiadakis, who showed us his pottery workshop and the renovated house from the Venetian times. We also enjoyed lunch at Kostas in the small village of Maza, which after a lunch we were happy to show the church of St. Nicholas with very old frescoes.

Let me conclude that this was one of the most beautiful holidays with our daughter Anna, who was then 10 months old. The hotel was well-known and could give the guest what they came for. Therefore, dear readers with older and smaller children from all over the world, I recommend that you choose this hotel when you are wandering around Crete.
